So, the Yuneec Typhoon H has been around for a couple of months now and we’ve been putting it through its paces and comparing it to the competition, ie, the Phantom 4.  In this blog post we’ll tell you some of the pro’s and con’s of each machine and what they mean for you as a flier, videographer, photographer.

The Yuneec Typhoon H on first glance has some hardware you won’t find on the Phantom 4 which are very useful in terms of safety but also in functionality.

First up, you’ll notice the Typhoon H is a Hexacopter; meaning it has 6 propellers rather than the 4 found on the Phantom 4.  This is a very important difference and not just a visual thing.  Having 6 propellers means the Typhoon H has an element of redunancy in terms of motor failure, esc failure or propeller failure and will happily fly on just 5 motors/propellers.

If in the unfortunate event you do suffer from a failure of this kind, you’re very likely to save your Typhoon H from a fate worse than death!

Secondly, the Typhoon H has retractable landing gear giving you the ability to shoot video safe in the knowledge that you won’t get the landing legs in shot, ruining your video clip or photo.

Thirdly, the camera and gimbal can spin continuously either clockwise or anti-clockwise in a 360 rotation with variable speed control.  Even the DJI Inspire 1 doesn’t have this feature.  This is absolutey awesome when shooting panoramic video and it doesn’t require manual flight control with a super steady thumb to control the yaw action, unlike the Phantom 4.

That’s the obvious observations from a quick glance at the Typhoon H but there’s more, much more.

When you take a look at the remote control transmitter, the first thing you’ll notice is the built-in 7″ touchscreen Android tablet.  No need to spend an extra pile of cash on buying a dedicated tablet to view what the camera sees or change settings; it’s included in the price and combined within the Yuneec Typhoon H’s remote control transmitter.

Another great feature of this awesome remote control is the built-in HDMI output.  On the Phantom 4 this is an optional extra but on the Typhoon H it is part of the remote and allows output of the screen to a secondary HDMI monitor.

You’ll also get an in-car battery charger and a neck strap, again an optional extras on the Phantom 4 but completely free in the kit with the Typhoon H.

The only downside to the Yuneec Typhoon H Hexacopter at the moment is the UI or software that allows you to change settings while flying.  DJI have nailed it here and have a much better user interface.  Yuneec are actively improving the firmware, adding features regaularly so this is something that will be short-lived and I’m sure Yuneec will have software and UI that is on par with DJI offfering at the moment.

If you would like to know more about the Yuneec Typhoon H Hexacopter then please get in touch and we can arrange a flight demonstration.
